Two Digit by Two Digit Multiplication
This lesson covers two digit by two digit multiplication. I use a method that asks students to break the number apart and then put it back together (distributive property). I prefer this method because it reinforces place value, expanded form, and mental math. I have posted practice problems, word problems, and an answer key for this skill as well.

Sample Word Problems:
1. Mrs. Gonzales is putting together her craft bags for class. Each bag has 54 beads in it. If she puts together 24 bags, how many beads does she need to buy to fill the bags?
2. Each ruler has 12 inches on it. There are 27 students in Miss Hattie's class measuring the fence outside. If the students in Miss Hattie's class all have rulers, how many inches total does the class have to measure with?
3. There are 96 people working in the new office complex on 21st Street. Each of the employees needs $95.00 to get their office supplies. How much money does the company need to set aside for the employees' office supplies?
4. There are 125 students in fourth grade. Every deck of cards has 52 cards in it. If all the kids in the fourth grade have a deck of cards, how many cards do they have altogether? (Extension: If each deck of cards costs $0.55, how much would it cost to make sure each student had a deck of cards?)
5. Lane drives 150 miles a day on her truck route. How many miles does she travel in a month? (Extension: How many miles does she drive each hour if her work day is 8:00 to 6:00?)
